Lars and I arrived at the Great Sand Dunes this morning
at about 9 a.m. and we found ourselves all alone in the parking
lot near the Medano Creek bed.
We had the entire sand dunes to ourselves! :) (Adjacent photo taken at the visitor center.) |
 |
We decided to hike up to High Dune, the tallest dune to the left behind me in the photo. |
 |
I have always been fascinated with some of
the simple ways of the dunes. Note the "mini-avalanches" of sand that transpired down this dune! |
 |
By the way, Lars Leber (top photo) is quite a photographer.
I suggest visiting his web sites that show off his amazing work:

The bottom photo is the same view Lars photographed above that
show some of the curves, contours and nuanced shades of the sand. |
 |
It was quite a rigorous hike uphill, but once we reached this ridge,
we were almost there. |
 |
A photo of Lars with the
Sangre De Cristo Mountains in the background. |
 |
At the summit, I pulled out a bag of Red Vines
licorice and chomped on a few. Special thanks to my friend "Tote" for giving these as a care gift! :) |
 |
The skies was fairly cloudly, but it was so good to get
out to the dunes. On the way down, I got a shot of Lars running down a really steep dune! :p) |
